Rossi looks ahead to Brands Hatch debut in GT World Challenge

Friday, April 29 2022

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi spoke enthusiastically ahead of his first ever race event at Brands Hatch, on the eve of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup round at the Kent circuit this weekend (30 April/1 May).

The Italian megastar will practice and qualify on the full Grand Prix circuit tomorrow, facing off against a field of no fewer than 25 additional GT3 race cars, built by some of the world's leading manufacturers. On Sunday, Rossi will co-pilot a Team WRT Audi R8 with Frédéric Vervisch in a pair of hour-long races.

Speaking ahead of the event, Rossi said: "It's the first Sprint race of the season and also the first Sprint race for me so something different compared to the Endurance. And especially it's the first time here in Brands Hatch for me.

"Unfortunately during the winter we cannot test so I don't know the track, but I tested the track in the simulator and it's a great track. It's fantastic, it's difficult, especially because you have a lot of places where it's blind so you need to do some kilometres to understand the right way. But the track is in fantastic condition with the new asphalt and everything and also the layout is very interesting, it's very old style track!"

Rossi also spoke warmly about the bumper crowd which is expected to attend across the weekend. "I know that this championship and this GT3 races have a lot of fans in England," he added. "I always have a lot, a lot of support when I race in Donington and Silverstone so I expect a lot of fans. So I think it will be great, especially on Sunday. The weather [in Britain] is always a bit difficult, but we hope that it remains dry!"

Reflecting once more on it being his first competitive outing at the famous venue, Rossi said: "For me, racing Brands Hatch is a great experience because it's a track that I know very well but I've never been here. So it's good from this point of view and I'll try to understand how to make a good result with the Sprint races and try to enjoy this is the target!"
