Jan Magnussen to make Formula Ford Festival comeback

Friday, October 22 2021

1992 Formula Ford Festival winner Jan Magnussen will return to the famous single-seater meeting at Brands Hatch this year, following the recent confirmation from event organiser the BRSCC that the ex-F1 driver would line up on 30/31 October.

Magnussen, who raced in Grands Prix for McLaren and Stewart, will take part in his first Formula Ford races in almost 30 years across the weekend. The Dane will race a Ray chassis for Low Dempsey Racing, where he will line up alongside current British GT Champion Dennis Lind, also a Formula Ford Festival winner in 2010.

Confirmation that Magnussen will race adds to all-star line-up for the 50th edition of the Formula Ford Festival, following the earlier announcement that fellow former Grand Prix racer Roberto Moreno would contest the event in a Van Dieman RF80, similar to that in which he won the 1980 running.

After winning the Festival in 1992, Magnussen was a dominant champion in British Formula 3 two years later, before racing in the DTM German Touring Car Championship in 1995. Magnussen made his F1 debut later that year at the Pacific Grand Prix as a substitute for Mika Hakkinen, before becoming a full-time F1 driver for Stewart in 1997.

After F1, Magnussen established himself as one of the leading drivers in endurance racing, initially with Panoz before forging a long and fruitful relationship with Corvette, which yielded no fewer than four class victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A superb entry is anticipated for this year's Formula Ford Festival, with almost 100 entries already received by the BRSCC for the knockout format event. Drivers will be split into four heats on Saturday ahead of progression races, semi-finals and a last chance qualifier ahead of the final on Sunday afternoon.

Other confirmed entries for this year's event include Team USA scholars Max Esterson and Andre Castro, 2016 winner Niall Murray and W Series race-winner Megan Gilkes.

Tickets for the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch on 30/31 October are available in advance from £14 with free entry for under-13s. For more information, please call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
