SuperPrix named Royal Automobile Club 'Competitive Event of the Year'

Friday, January 29 2021

The Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix, run by the Historic Sports Car Club at the world-famous Kent circuit, was announced as the winner in the 'Competitive Event of the Year' category at last night's Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards.

The 2020 Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix, was the first post-lockdown race event of the season at the circuit last year, running on the second weekend of competitive motorsport following motor racing's return in July.

The event was a summer highlight for competitors, marshals and motor racing fans following the sport's long absence during the early months last year.

Andy Dee-Crowne, CEO of the HSCC said: "To win major awards two years running is an exceptional achievement for the Club, which operates with a core HQ team of just four people. We are both delighted and proud to be recognised in these prestigious industry awards. The HSCC is a long-established Club and this award underlines its continuing place at the heart of historic racing.

"Running the SuperPrix this year was a massive challenge for our small team and it proved to be a huge success as the first major post-lockdown historic race meeting. Many new procedures and systems had to be implemented to deal with the ever-present COVID issues, but the whole event ran incredibly well.

"This event could not have taken place without the vision of Jonathan Palmer at MotorSport Vision and Hugh Chambers from Motorsport UK who worked tirelessly to get motor sport back on track. I also want to thank our members and guest competitors for their trust, understanding and compliance with those rules that were put in place to ensure everyone's safety."
