GTWCE FP1: Mercedes-AMG leads opening session at Brands Hatch

Saturday, April 30 2022

Mercedes-AMG GT machines locked out the top-three positions in the opening Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS free practice session of the weekend on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this morning (Saturday).

It was a clean sweep at the head of the standings for the AKKODIS ASP Team, with Raffaele Marciello and Timur Bogusavskiy's car topping the times with a lap of 1m22.037s around the Kent circuit's longer layout. This was just 0.198s faster than the sister car of Jim Pla and Jules Gounon, with the team's third entry of Casper Stevenson and Thomas Drouet just a little further back.

Team WRT Audis have traditionally gone well at Brands Hatch and Christopher Mies and Jean-Baptise Simmenauer's example was the fastest of these in the first GT World Challenge outing of the weekend. The top-five was completed by the AF Corse Ferrari 488 of Ulysse de Pauw and Pierre Alexandre Jean.

The remainder of the top-ten was completed by Audis from three teams, inlcuding Sainteloc Junior Team, Tresor by Car Collection and Attempto Racing as well as Team WRT. The similar WRT machine shared by Valentino Rossi and Frederic Vervisch was 13th fastest.
