BTCC FP1: Rowbottom tops early Brands Hatch times

Daniel Rowbottom topped the opening Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship Free Practice period of the weekend on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this morning (Saturday), moving to the head of the time sheets with his final lap of the 40-minute session.

Rowbottom's best effort of 1m31.249s was enough to see him seize the lead of the session by just one tenth of a second from Rory Butcher's works Toyota Corolla. Daniel Lloyd completed the top three, ending up third fastest as he continues his impressive run of late season form.

Reigning champion Ashley Sutton heads into this weekend as favourite for the overall crown, and he lapped fourth fastest in practice. The Infiniti Q50 was just three tenths of a second off Rowbottom's session leading pace ahead of qualifying at 15:00 this afternoon. 

Three-time champion Gordon Shedden completed the top-five, one place ahead of series legend Jason Plato. Senna Proctor was seventh, one place ahead of title contender Jake HIll in eighth, with Adam Morgan and Tom Ingram rounding out the top-10.

Of the other drivers mathematically in contention for the crown, four-time champion Colin Turkington was 15th whilst Josh Cook posted the 21st fastest time.
