Mercedes-AMG tops opening Brands Hatch Blancpain GT practice

Saturday, May 04 2019

Vincent Abril and Raffaele Marciello topped the opening Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe practice session of the weekend at Brands Hatch in their Mercedes-AMG GT3 this morning.

The AKKA ASP Team-prepared machine lapped the legendary full Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in 1m23.310s to top the session by just under two-tenths-of-a-second from the Attempto Racing Audi R8 LMS of Steijn Schothorst and Nick Foster.

Nico Bastian and Thomas Neubauer ensured that there was strong Mercedes-AMG representation in the top-three by placing third in a second AKKA ASP machine, just a further three-thousandths back.

Marcus Winkelhock and Steven Palette's Audi R8 was fourth, just ahead of the leading Lamborghini of Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart, who won at this event in 2017.

The first of the grid's new Aston Martin V8 Vantages placed seventh in the hands of Ricky Collard and Marvin Kirchhofer.

The next Blancpain GT qualifying session is scheduled for 12:30 ahead of qualifying at 15:55.
