Chadwick champion as Powell wins in W Series on #SuperSunday

Sunday, August 11 2019

There was double success for the Brits in the W Series season finale at Brands Hatch as Jamie Chadwick made history to win the all-female single-seater series whilst Alice Powell won her first race of the season in front of a home crowd on #SuperSunday.

Chadwick led from pole position initially, buf after seven laps at the head of the field she was outmuscled by Powell at Paddock Hill Bend. Powell was swiftly followed by practice pace-setter Emma Kimilainen who snuck past at Druids just moments later to drop Chadwick down to third.

From there Powell controlled the race at the front despite Kimilainen keeping in touch just behind to secure her first win of the W Series season.

Chadwick meanwhile fell back into the clutches of her title rival Beitske Visser, who passed her shortly after a brief safety car period to recover the stranded Tatuus machine of Miki Koyama.

From there though, Chadwick withstood the pressure from her rival to secure fourth place and with it the title and an unprecedented prize fund.

Fabienne Wohlwend completed the final top-five of the season. Vicky Piria was sixth, and behind her Jessica Hawkins who finished as the third Brit on the road. Sarah Moore was the fourth of the Brits in 10th position.

Esmee Hawkey, from just down the road in Chiselhurst endured a heartbreaking end to her season after faltering off the start line from third - her best starting position of the year. Unfortunately for Hawkey, she was unable to recover from that moment and eventually ended the race 16th.

As the top-12 drivers in the standings are all secured a return for 2020, and that includes Powell, Moore, and Hawkins in addition to Chadwick after today's performances. Hawkey was the only Brit not to make the cut after her unfortunate start to the race.
