Super fast 919 demo headlines Brands Hatch Festival of Porsche

Sunday, September 02 2018

Porsche's stunning 919 Hybrid Evo blitzed its way around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit with an unofficial quickest lap-time of 38.146s today as the Festival of Porsche returned to Kent in glorious sunshine.

The super-fast 919 Hybrid Evo, an evolution of Porsche's recent Le Mans winning cars, took to the track with Nick Tandy behind the wheel. The Le Mans-winning Porsche driver improved his lap-times throughout three sessions fall just 0.114s shy of the circuit's official record.

For perspective, that is just the average human blinking time short of the standing record, achieved by Scott Mansell behind the wheel of a Benetton B197 in 2004. Tandy's epic effort was achieved despite running on demonstration tyres with the car's hybrid system not being mapped to the 1.2-mile Indy circuit's layout.

Despite running on the more compact Indy circuit, Tandy was still able to achieve a whopping top speed of 308kph in the 919 - that's 191mph!

The 919 Hybrid Evo was just one of a host of exciting Porsche racing cars on-site today, ranging from classic 356s from the manufacturer's early days, to 956 prototypes which dominated at Le Mans in the '80s. Many of these cars took to the track for demonstration runs of their own, whilst other cars of historic significance appeared in static displays - including Le Mans winning 917 and 911 GT1 machines.

Tandy was just one of a handful of notable guests on-site throughout the day, with others including Porsche Le Mans legends Richard Attwood and Derek Bell, plus Urban Outlaw Magnus Walker.

A thrilling race programme was organised by Porsche Club GB too, ensuring that there was loads to see on track throughout the day. This included the club's Resto Racing Boxter series, in which Porsche roadsters appeared in classic 956 and 917 liveries.

Porsche Club's devoted membership were out in force too, with hundreds of Porsche machines appearing throughout the venue's surrounds in impressive car displays.
