Champions to be crowned at Brands Hatch this autumn

Tuesday, September 04 2018

The 2018 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion (BTCC) and Bennetts British Superbike Champion (BSB) will both be crowned on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this autumn as the national motor racing season heads towards its crescendo.

The BTCC's four-wheeled heroes will duke it out first with a triple-header season finale on Sunday 30 September. If recent seasons are anything to go by, it's likely to go down to the wire, with Colin Turkington (BMW), Ashley Sutton (Subaru), and Tom Ingram (Toyota) likely to be the chief protagonists.

It's been a record-breaking year for the BTCC, which it currently celebrating its 60th anniversary, with 14 drivers having tasted victory thus far this year. Anything can happen in this ultra-competitive era for the BTCC, and it will undoubtedly play out in dramatic fashion.

Just two weekends later, it will be the turn of Bennetts BSB's gladiators to entertain with three races on the Kent circuit's famous longer layout. One race on Saturday 13 October and two more on Sunday 14 October will decide the fate of the crown as the championship's Showdown six hit the track.

Leon Haslam will be the favourite to end his long quest for a maiden crown, and it's likely that his chief opposition could come from local riders, with both Jake Dixon and Bradley Ray in hot pursuit. 2015 Champion Josh Brookes is another in the hunt as the championship heads towards its conclusion.

As an added bonus, the British Truck Racing Association Championship will end for another year with an Indy circuit meeting on Sunday 4 November, ahead of a season-closing fireworks display.
