Kent BTCC racer Jake Hill expects big step forward at Brands

Friday, March 23 2018

Kent Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship racer Jake Hill will head to home circuit Brands Hatch for the season-opening event in two weeks' time (7/8 April) full of optimism for the year ahead.

Tunbridge Wells driver Jake will embark upon his third full BTCC season with Strood-based Team HARD and his second with the VW CC. Following a frustrating 2017, the 24 year-old has high hopes now that the team has recruited new engineers, including technical ace Geoff Kingston, a veteran of title-winning teams WSR and Team Dynamics as well as success in Formula 1 and Le Mans.

"We have a much better package around us now," said Jake. "I drove the car for the first time last week and it was a massive step forward in every dimension. The two new engineers have done an extraordinary job redesigning and rebuilding our VW CC.

"Everything that's crucial about the car is way better than it was and it wasn't even that bad last year, so hopefully we've had a big enough step forward and we can really push some of these works cars out of the podium positions."

Jake joins an impressive line-up that includes fellow Tunbridge Wells resident Mike Bushell, veteran racer Michael Caine and rookie Bobby Thompson, who graduates to the BTCC as the reigning VW Cup champion.

"It's a great team," said Jake. "I'm over the moon with the driver line-up because first and foremost we're really good friends, which is great. Mike is my immediate team mate, so I'm really looking forward to working with him, he's a nice lad and is quick, having won the Clio Cup. Hopefully we can become quite the pairing and work our way through the grid."

Even with an improved VW CC the 2018 BTCC field will be harder than ever to crack, with a raft of changes including returning race winners and new cars.

"It's going to be tougher than ever again," admits Jake. "The grid is just evolving. It always does, but it is getting stronger. It's going to be very difficult, to say the least!"

Tickets for the BTCC at Brands Hatch on 7/8 April available from £28, with free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
