Kids lap Brands in minibus & meet NASCAR stars

Friday, June 08 2018

Pupils from Newington Church of England Primary School did a lap of the Brands Hatch track in their minibus and got under the bonnet of a NASCAR during a visit to the Kent circuit today, which is gearing up for this weekend's spectacular American SpeedFest event.

The nine, 10 and 11 year olds were joined by head teacher and NASCAR fan Simon Krafft and school site manager Steve Nelson, who expertly piloted the bus down Paddock Hill and round Druids bend behind the Brands Hatch course car.

The youngsters toured the pit garages and met drivers including Brit Alex Sedgwick, who is racing in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series for the Braxx Racing team this weekend after two outings this season with the Italian MRT team.

They looked under the bonnet, watched engineers working on the car, and took turns to slide through the window into the driver's seat while quizzing Alex about how fast the car would go. Alex said he was looking forward to racing on his home circuit and hoped to get out and about over the weekend to explore some of the off-track attractions.

Mr. Krafft said: "It's been a fantastic opportunity for the children, we're so grateful to be able to bring them to the circuit for an experience like this."

Adult tickets for this weekend are £24 for Saturday and £30 for Sunday, with reductions for teens and senior citizens. Children under 13 are FREE! For full event details including race timetables and attractions click here.
