DTM: Brits lead the way ahead of Brands Hatch return

Monday, July 16 2018

There is a British pairing atop the DTM standings ahead of the German high-performance touring car championship's return to Brands Hatch this August, following double podiums for Mercedes drivers Gary Paffett and Paul Di Resta at Zandvoort in the Netherlands last weekend.

Paffett was the man of the weekend with two pole positions, a win and a second place finish to cement his place atop the table. This takes local man Paffett's win tally for the season to three, ahead of the series' outing on the legendary full Grand Prix circuit on 11-12 August.

Former F1 star Di Resta joined Paffett on the podium in both races, with second place in the opener to complete an all-British Mercedes one-two and guarantee second in the table ahead of the championship's return to Kent.

It's super tight behind the leading duo, with German BMW drivers Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann separated from one another by just three points. Ex-Grand Prix driver Glock has won one race this season, whilst Wittmann has tasted victory twice.

Whilst Mercedes and BMW have enjoyed plenty of success this year, the DTM's other manufacturer - Audi - has struggled to match them. At Zandvoort, however, the Ingolstadt marque recorded its first win of the season via reigning champion Rene Rast.

With Audi rediscovering a bit of form, it's worth bearing in mind that Mike Rockenfeller won for the manufacturer last time the championship visited Brands Hatch in 2013.

Brands Hatch will host two DTM races on 11-12 August with a race on each day on the Grand Prix circuit.

DTM standings ahead of Brands Hatch
1, Gary Paffett, Mercedes, 148 points
2, Paul di Resta, Mercedes, 121
3, Timo Glock, BMW, 101
4, Marco Wittmann, BMW, 98
5, Edoardo Mortara, Mercedes, 97
