Tordoff on top ahead of BTCC qualifying at Brands Hatch

Saturday, April 02 2016

Sam Tordoff topped the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship practice session at Brands Hatch today (Saturday), with a fast lap recorded during a simulated qualifying run.

Jason Plato and Colin Turkington were notably absent as the second practice session got underway, the former leaving his pit after five minutes had run, and the Northern Irishman joining him shortly afterwards.

Whilst the Subarus were getting up to speed, Matt Neal topped the times ahead of the WSR BMWs of Tordoff and Jack Goff. Also performing well at this early stage were Jeff Smith and Ashley Sutton, both ahead of Tom Ingram in the opening minutes.

After mid-distance Ingram moved up to second place, then bettered Neal's time by just five thousandths of a second to top the order once again. Several drivers then pitted towards the latter moments, ready for qualifying simulation runs ahead of this afternoon's vital session.

Improvements in the final ten minutes included Adam Morgan, who moved up to second place, and Aron Smith in fourth, before taking the fastest lap by half a tenth. Sutton's attempt was less successful, dragging gravel onto the circuit on the run to Druids, and delaying further attempts from the field.

WSR's Tordoff built up speed to consolidate his top ten position, before pipping Smith at the top of the order by a tenth. In the final moments, Andrew Jordan moved up to sixth place, but was immediately demoted a position by a recovering Sutton, both then losing places as Shedden went fourth quickest right at the end.

Jack Goff ended up just outside the top ten, but the WSR BMWs look to be strong this weekend, despite a tough session for Rob Collard. Ingram and Morgan both feature at the front of the practice order, as do the MGs, and both Motorbase Fords ended up in the top ten. Turkington headed the Subarus again, this time in 19th place.
