Bumper entries for Blancpain GT season-openers

Monday, April 04 2016

The 2016 Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup season will get underway in Italy this weekend with 40 supercars set to take part at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, and almost all of the entries can be seen at Brands Hatch next month (7/8 May).

Nine prestigious manufacturers will be represented by 19 teams on the starting grid, and the cars will include the Audi R8, Bentley Continental GT, Lamborghini Huracan, McLaren 650 S, and Nissan GT-R. The Misano race will also feature the debut Blancpain GT appearances for the new BMW M6 GT3, Ferrari 488 GT3, Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the Porsche 911 GT3 R, all of which are expected at Brands Hatch in May.

Meanwhile an equally large grid will line up for the Blancpain GT Sports Club, which will also appear at Brands Hatch. Whilst the Sprint Cup is contested by rising and established racing stars, the Sports Club is aimed at gentlemen drivers and the gird features a mixture of GT3, GT Endurance and one-make series supercars.

The Blancpain GT Sports Club grid includes many Ferraris, with both 458 and the new 488 represented. There are also Audi R8s, Mercedes SLS and AMG GT3, Corvettes and BMW Z4s within the entry list.

The weekend will also include the GT Cup Championship, bringing even more racing supercars to Brands Hatch, and there's a real treat for fans of rare exotica, with the only UK appearance this year from the Blancpain Ultracar Sports Car Club. This will feature the world's rarest, fastest and most expensive cars in a series of high-speed demonstrations, where you can expect to see the Bugatti Veyron, McLaren P1, LaFerrari, Pagani Zonda R and much more being put through their paces.
