British F3 returns to Brands Hatch next weekend!

Wednesday, April 06 2016

The legendary British Formula 3 Championship returns to Brands Hatch next weekend (16/17 April), as a large grid of potential future F1 stars take to the Grand Prix circuit for what is sure to be three action-packed races. The meeting marks the second round of the 2016 season for BRDC British F3 and also heralds the return to Kent of one of the UK's most recognised motorsport categories after a one-year hiatus.

Following the introduction of the new, more powerful Tatuus-Cosworth, the former BRDC Formula 4 Championship, which ran extremely successfully for three years, has been rebranded the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship in association with Duo. Lap times of the new car have rivalled that of the previous British F3 lap record at a number of UK circuits, ensuring that the premier single-seater championship in the country provides a fantastic challenge for the drivers and a brilliant spectacle of speed and racing action for spectators.

A packed grid of talented youngsters has been assembled with 2015 MSA Formula rookie champion Enaam Ahmed currently leading the championship following a stellar weekend last time out at Snetterton, which included a race win. He is being chased by a number of drivers including McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalists Toby Sowery and Ricky Collard, with a number of international talents including Australian F4 runner-up Thomas Randle, Brazilian Matheus Leist and Finnish racer Aleksanteri Huovinen lending a cosmopolitan feel to the category as they look to build on strong first weekends.

With three different race winners from the three races in Norfolk, and each driver racing an identical Tatuus-Cosworth car, every racer will fancy their chances of success at Brands Hatch and others to watch out for include South African Sisa Ngebulana, Brazilian Enzo Bortoleto and 2015 Formula Jedi Champion Ben Hingeley. Over 20 cars will fight it out on the Kent circuit's longer layout, which remains a nerve-wracking challenge with high-speed sweeping corners and plenty of elevation changes, so expect others to shine too.

Alongside the BRDC British F3 Championship action will be the British GT Championship, which co-headlines the meeting and features a two-hour mini-enduro race with a plethora of the planet's most stunning supercar manufacturers battling at full speed including Lamborghini, Aston Martin, McLaren, Bentley and Maserati.
