'Voice of Brands Hatch' Brian Jones passes away

Saturday, January 02 2021

Brian Jones, who will forever be remembered as the classic 'voice of Brands Hatch', sadly died last night (Friday) at the age of 85.

Brian was behind the microphone for many of the Kent circuit's iconic moments, including British and European Grands Prix, and he was an avid supporter of national motorsport too, the Formula Ford Festival in particular.

Indeed, Brian continued in his role as part of the Formula Ford Festival's commentary team until 2015 before officially hanging up his microphone. Thereafter, Brian continued to be regularly seen at events, and occasionally lent his voice to circuit commentary in a guest capacity.

When on duty, Brian was always 'tolerably well' and he contributed more than his fair share to the Brands Hatch vernacular. To many the correct racing line through Paddock Hill Bend will always be, as he described it, 'high, wide and handsome'.

Jonathan Palmer, MSV Chief Executive said: "Brian Jones was to Brands Hatch what Murray Walker was to British F1. Both were synonymous with the motor racing they covered and had wonderful, distinctive and charismatic voices. Brian was a tremendous supporter of Brands Hatch particularly, and of national motor racing generally. His knowledge and enthusiasm was immense, whilst he was a popular regular in the Kentagon too, where much valuable research was of course done!"

The entire MSV team sends its best wishes to Brian's family and friends.
