Storey aims to equal British Paralympic record at Brands Hatch

Thursday, September 06 2012

Paralympian Sarah Storey could equal Tanni Grey Thompson and Dave Roberts' British records of 11 Paralympic gold medals should she be victorious in the Women's Road Race at Brands Hatch later today.

Storey claimed her third gold medal of the current games yesterday with a dominant performance in the Women's Individual Time Trial, and competes at 14.32 today (Thursday).

Speaking yesterday Storey said: "Just to be anywhere near Tanni is amazing and I can't believe I've been put on the same page as her. She's a good friend, a great athlete and I hope to get to see her at some point before the games end.

"Whether or not it goes my way, with a road race you can never tell. The girls will all be gunning to beat me after this week so I'll have to keep my wits about me and see what happens!"

Also in action today for ParalympicsGB include Jon-Allan Butterworth (C5/C4) who competes at 10.30 with Shaun McKeown and Mark Colbourne (C3-1) who race at 14.30.

All the events today feature riders on bicycles, but with adjustments made for various impairments, and races last between 48 and 80km with each event expected to last an hour and a half.

Today's events:

10.30 - Men's Individual C4-5 Road Race - 10 laps (80km)
10.32 - Women's Individual C1-3 Road Race - 6 laps (48km)
