Kent rider Ray on pole again at Brands BSB

Saturday, April 14 2018

Kent rider Bradley Ray qualified fastest to claim pole position for tomorrow's Bennetts British Superbike Championship second round at Brands Hatch. Defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne makes it a Kent 1-2 at the front of the grid after impressive practice and qualifying performances in the sunshine today.

Twenty-year-old Ray snatched the lead from Byrne in the closing minutes of the third qualifying session and admitted it was "unbelievable" to be on pole at Brands Hatch after his incredible double victory in round one at Donington Park.

Byrne said being on the front row tomorrow was always the aim. Referring to his wheelie off the start line in round one, he said: "I think it's going to be a fun race tomorrow, hopefully I'll get a better start than Donington."

James Ellison completes the line-up on the front row of the grid with Leon Haslam back in fifth. Haslam is looking to erase memories of his last outing at Brands Hatch in the final round in 2017. Entering the weekend as sure-fire champion, Haslam crashed out in the last race and handed Byrne his sixth championship and first title defence.

Here's the qualifying result and how they line up for tomorrow's first race at 1.30pm:

  2. Shane Byrne (Be Wiser Ducati) +0.097s
