BTCC FP2: Jelley leads in second Brands Hatch practice

Saturday, May 14 2022

Team BMW's Stephen Jelley topped the times in the second Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship practice session of the weekend at Brands Hatch this afternoon, posting a best time of 47.654s to lead the rest of the pack by just over a tenth of a second on the Indy circuit.

Jelley sprung to first position with a late lap of the Kent circuit's shorter layout in bright and sunny conditions. Jelley's last gasp effort demoted Michael Crees to second, after the CarStore with Power Maxed Racing driver looked to be heading to a session topping performance at his home circuit during the latter stages of proceedings.

Crees's Vauxhall was followed in the final pecking order by Tom Ingram, who continued his strong showing after setting the best time in the opening practice period earlier in the day. This time, Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8 TradePriceCars.com racer was just shy of the overall pace, but his performances in both practice sessions bode well for the remainder of the weekend.

Rich Energy BTC Racing's Josh Cook was the fourth fastest on-circuit during the final pre-qualifying track session, one place ahead of ROKiT MB Motorsport's Jake Hill, another local competitior in action this weekend.

Impressive rookie Tom Gamble rounded out the top-six in one of Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport's BMWs, ahead of two champions in Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington. Daniel Rowbottom and Adam Morgan completed the top-ten.

NAPA Racing UK's all-star line-up of Dan Cammish and reigning champion Ashley Sutton have some pace to find ahead of qualifying, with the former only able to set the 18th fastest time, with Sutton in 21st.
