HASLAM FOLLOWS TITLE VICTORY WITH FIRST RACE WIN AT BRANDS HATCH

Sunday, October 14 2018

'Pocket Rocket' Leon Haslam was as good as his word, landing his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship race win on the Grand Prix circuit with Kawasaki at Brands Hatch after yesterday securing the 2018 title in the first of the weekend's three races.

Only 14 of 26 riders finished race two in wet conditions, with Haslam and Jason O'Halloran constantly trading places at the front throughout the second half. Championship runner-up Jake Dixon took the lead with a handful of laps to go but crashed out at Clearways, leaving Haslam clear to power to victory.

After securing the championship yesterday with a sixth-place finish in race one, Haslam vowed to win at Brands Hatch today - but he admitted even on the last lap he feared he might lose the bike in the wet.

Haslam was joined on the podium by Tommy Bridewell (second) and Jason O'Halloran. The championship concludes with race three this afternoon, followed by the traditional end-of-season celebrations on the grid. Dates for next year's rounds have just been announced and tickets will be on sale soon.
