The Formula Ford racing season comes to Brands Hatch this weekend (27-28 October) for its traditional end-of-season Festival celebration, with many young drivers hoping to claim one of the most prestigious prizes in British motorsport.
Now in its 40th year, success in this world-famous event has played a key role in the development of many drivers' careers. Current F1 stars Jenson Button and Mark Webber, plus former Grand Prix winners Johnny Herbert and Eddie Irvine, are just a few of the great names that have won this event and have subsequently enjoyed great success on the international motor sport stage.
Last season, Scott Malvern added his name to the roll of honour with a superb victory here and has since enjoyed further success by winning the BARC Formula Renault Championship in his maiden year in the series.
Famous for sporting cars that have no front or rear wings (at least this year!), Formula Ford is noted for being among one of the closest and most exciting single-seater categories in the world and with many examples set to be on the grid at the iconic Brands Hatch Indy circuit, expectations for a thrilling meeting look distinctly possible.
Headlining the festival will be the Duratec-powered Formula Fords, but there is likely to be plenty of great action too in the support categories, with the entertaining Kent and Zetec cars competing in their own respective classes. Further support action will also come from the Motorsport News Ford Fiesta Junior Championship.
Tickets for the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch on October 27-28 are available for £10 in advance with free admission for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click this link.
