Brookes wins race one to close gap on Redding at BSB finale

Saturday, October 19 2019

Josh Brookes took his 15th Bennetts British Superbike Championship win this afternoon to close the gap on Be Wiser Ducati teammate Scott Redding to 19 points at the top of the standings, setting the scene for a thrilling final day of the 2019 season.

It's a two-horse race between the pair after Oxford Racing Ducati's Tommy Bridewell was ruled out of contention, with two races of the season remaining on the full Grand Prix circuit tomorrow.

Today race one provided thrills and spills aplenty, with a lucky escape for Luke Mossey who crashed on lap two and narrowly avoided being hit by fellow riders. An oil spillage on lap six halted the race for 10 minutes while the track was cleared, with Brookes, Bridewell and Christian Iddon on the front row at the restart and championship leader Redding back in seventh.

A 12-lap sprint race followed, with Brookes forging ahead from the start and Redding gradually picking off riders one-by-one to finish an impressive third. With just 19 points separating the pair, and 50 on offer across the remaining two races, it promises to be a thrilling end to the season.
