BTCC's Jordan can't wait for Pickup Truck debut this weekend

Tuesday, October 31 2017

Former BTCC champion Andrew Jordan is looking forward to his guest appearance in the Pickup Truck Racing Championship at this weekend's (4-5 November) Trucks and Fireworks event at Brands Hatch.

Andrew began his season on the Indy circuit in April, when he won a race on his first appearance with BMW in the BTCC. He's looking forward to returning to the short layout in the Pickup Truck, which has been loaned to him by team owner Matt Roach, who he knows from his Junior Rallycross days.

"I was chatting to [BTCC and Trucks commentator] Alan Hyde actually before this came up and he says that it's such a great weekend," recalled Andrew, who will be bringing his family along to the event. "So when it came up I thought it'll be a good [opportunity] to go and have some fun and also gets Pirtek in front of a different audience."

Andrew reveals there's a family connection to the series: "My dad [successful club, BTCC and British GT racer Mike Jordan] used to drive them back in 97. The chassis is the same, but they've gone to a bigger engine in one of the classes, which is the one I'm in.

"I believe it's the finale of the championship, so some of them I would think will be going for their titles, so for me it's to have some fun and if we can get a result then great. I look forward to getting stuck it and mixing it as hard as I can, and I'll race them as I'd expect to be raced and that's hard but fair, and put on a good show."

With just a quick shakedown at Silverstone last week, Andrew will be jumping straight into the deep end this weekend, so he's glad that he'll be making his debut on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit. "It's great," he said. "Because there's a testing ban [in the Pickup Truck Championship] it's one of the very few circuits I know so well that I feel I can go into qualifying there and not have to worry.

"It always makes for great racing whatever cars, trucks or whatever you're in, so I'm looking forward to it and also the fireworks weekend; I've heard it's a very good atmosphere."

Andrew will take part in the qualifying session on Saturday, with both of his races taking place on Sunday. You can read more about his Pickup Truck Racing debut in the official programme on sale at the venue this weekend.
