Andrew Jordan ready for 'full-on' BTCC at Brands Hatch

Monday, March 27 2017

The 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion, Andrew Jordan can't wait to make his Team BMW debut at Brands Hatch this weekend (1/2 April).

Jordan signed with title contenders WSR last year before the team's manufacturer status with BMW was confirmed. Since then he has been joined by fellow BTCC champion Colin Turkington, with team regular Rob Collard completing the BMW 125i M-Sport line-up.

"Colin I've got huge respect for," Jordan said. "He's a very down-to-earth guy, very similar to myself. He's there to win but he's a pretty nice guy as well.

"Colin's known as the quickest rear-wheel-drive racer on the grid, so to me I'm looking forward to using that to my strengths, trying to learn off him as much as possible. It's a bit of a win-win for me if I'm honest; everyone knows how quick he is in a rear-wheel-drive car, so if I can take it to him and sometimes beat him then fantastic, and if not then I'll learn as much as I can every time I'm on track with him and through the data.

"I genuinely believe we can work very well together; I view Matt and Gordon as the model team-mates, and that's what I want to try and replicate and I think it's possible."

A two-champion line-up, and a car that came within two points of last year's title has fired up Andrew, who ended last season 53 points adrift of champion Gordon Shedden.

"West Surrey never roll out a slow car," said Jordan. "We've got the new engine coming to the first race, so hopefully that will give us a little bit, and the handling of the car has been fantastic. Myself, Colin and Rob all seem to like similar handling cars, so I'm very happy with the team and looking forward to getting to Brands to get it underway.

"I think we'll challenge at the front, that's what I'll be going to Brands with. I've got a target in my head for my first weekend in a rear-wheel-drive car; if I can come away in the top three or four in the points I think that will be pretty solid. Don't get me wrong, I want to be leading it, but a good consistent day to kick-start the championship is the aim. I think it's going to be a full-on year."
