MCE BSB title leader Haslam expecting epic battles at Brands

Wednesday, April 12 2017

Leon Haslam had a dream start to his MCE British Superbike Championship campaign at the opening round, but the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider admits he is expecting a fierce battle to make it a repeat performance in the two races on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit this Easter (14-17 April).

Haslam secured a double victory at his home round of Donington Park, holding off the challenges from Luke Mossey and Josh Brookes in the two opening  races of the season, but with an intense 1.2-mile lap, the 'Pocket Rocket' knows his rivals won't be giving him an inch this weekend.

Haslam said: "I am ready for the weekend; I think for me I just need to get my head down at Brands Hatch. This year has been the best start for me; this time last year we came into this round on the back foot and this year it has been a complete contrast by taking the first two wins.

"It is important to not get too carried away; it is a long season and my concentration is on myself and trying to keep up this winning momentum. I am feeling confident but until we get out on track we won't know how it will all stack up on a different track.

"The shorter lap of the Indy circuit means you cannot afford to make any mistakes and you do have to be committed to a move; however I have never had a problem with a hard pass and that adds to the races here because everyone does get involved!

"I won here last year and it was only by making a move at the last meter before the line so you really can't count on anything until the finish. I feel that we are going into this round stronger than I was last year, but we know that Shakey is going to come out fighting and that this has been a good track for riders like Ellison and Laverty in the past too. I think that this could also be a strong round for Sylvain [Guintoli] and Davide [Giugliano] but we will find out on Easter Monday!"

The second round of the 2017 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship takes place at Brands Hatch this Easter weekend (April 14/15/16/17).  For more information click  HERE
