Up to 500 cars set to contest Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix

Sunday, June 26 2016

A huge entry of up to 500 cars will compete at this weekend's (1-3 July) Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix, which celebrates 50 years of the Historic Sports Car Club.

Single seater categories are headed up by the Historic Race of Champions, recreating the famous races of the 1960s and 70s. Several thunderous Formula 5000 cars will contest the class, including classic Lolas, a Surtees and Gurney Eagle. Also included is a Chevron B24, recalling Peter Gethin's famous win against Formula 1 machinery.

There will also be races for Historic Grand Prix cars from the 1930s to mid-1950s

There are many more single-seater categories including Formula Ford, Formula 3 and Formula 2. A huge contingent of over 100 Formula Junior cars will be split into three grids. They will celebrate the class that nurtured drivers in the late 1950s and early 1960s, when a revolution in racing car design moved the engine from the front of the car to the back.

Touring cars and saloons are superbly represented by two categories. The popular Super Touring Car Series is headed up by the Patrick Watts Peugeot 406. The field also contains the 1992 title-winning BMW, plus several Honda Accords, Ford Mondeos, Audis, Volvos and much more. A previous era is recalled with the pre-66 cars of the Historic Touring Car Championship, where American muscle cars battle European Lotus Cortinas, Minis, Hillman Imps and more.

A huge field of cars will contest the GT and Sportscar Cup for pre-66 machinery, including the Austin Healey 3000, Jaguar E-Type, Lotus Eleven and Porsche 911. The Road Sports Categories are also awash with classic GT cars, from the Lotus 7s and Elans, MGs, Porsches and Triumphs of the Historic category, to the 70s Datsun 240Z, Lotus Europa and TVRs.

The Guards Trophy also features GTs alongside Sports Racers such as the Chevron B6 and B8 and Lotus 23. Later prototype cars will contest the Pre 80s Endurance race for Le Mans-style machines.
