MSV completes venue improvements at Brands Hatch

Monday, January 18 2016

Brands Hatch owner MSV has completed a programme of improvements to the circuit over the winter which will benefit competitors, trackday participants, officials and spectators when the 2016 season gets underway this month.

Track works have focussed on the section between Druids and Graham Hill corners, with Armco posts renewed on the run downhill from the famous hairpin. In addition, new kerbing has been installed on the exit of Graham Hill Bend.

Spectators will be able to benefit from improvements to viewing areas and preservation work to woodland surrounding the Grand Prix loop, and there are upgrades to Race Control and trackside marshal posts.

Circuit Manager, Mike Groves, explained: "The team have been working hard, in somewhat challenging weather conditions, on a number of projects around the venue. In respect of the track itself, we have replaced all of the old kerbs on the exit of Graham Hill Bend with new Vallelunga-style kerbs, similar to those previously installed at Clark Curve. We have also replaced a large number of wooden Armco posts with brand new steel posts. In the event of a heavy impact to the barriers, the downtime in track activity will now be significantly reduced as repairs will be much speedier - something I'm sure both drivers/riders and spectators will be pleased to hear. Race Control and trackside marshal posts are also receiving a few upgrades and improvements.

"With regard to the rest of the venue, we have been undertaking a significant amount of woodland management work in the areas around the Grand Prix loop - helping to preserve the ancient and semi-natural woodlands we have at Brands Hatch. We're also tidying up all the spectator viewing areas to make sure they're in good condition for the start of the new season. They've taken a bit of a battering in the recent inclement weather!

"Works are progressing well and we're looking forward to the start of the 2016 season."

Tickets for many of Brands Hatch's 2016 events are now on sale. Entry to the venue at all meetings is free for children aged under 13. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
