MSV's top ten photos of 2016

Saturday, December 31 2016

Our circuits are renowned for a high level of presentation and therefore lend themselves well to photos. Once again we've seen many great images this year, including high-speed racing action, festival events and champagne celebrations.

We're lucky to receive thousands of photos every year, taken at all of our circuits and at the vast majority of our events. Whether it's club racing for honour, or international GT competition, we've been overwhelemed by the quality of images that we've seen this year.

Here are ten of our favourites from 2016, in chronological order:

1. Easter Funday at Oulton Park

EasterFundayOP

The surprise hit of the spring, Oulton Park's event was about much more than motor racing, and an earlier form of competitive horsepower has been brilliantly captured here by Lee Marshall.

2. Modified Live at Cadwell Park

MLCP

The highlight of Modified Live is Time Attack, a high-speed battle against the clock that pits man against (highly-tuned) machine. Rich Sams' shot of a Noble attacking Cadwell Park's Hall Bends encapsulates the sheer thrill of driving this magnificent circuit.

3. British GT Championship at Oulton Park

F3GTOP

A slightly later date for this year's British GT event in Cheshire has given the trees time to flourish, and the natural beauty of Oulton Park contrasts well with the sheer brute force of a gigantic grid of thoroughbred supercars just as they are about to unleash several thousand horsepower! Championship snapper Jakob Ebrey grabbed the moment before all hell broke loose.

4. Ricky Collard, BRDC British Formula 3 at Snetterton

BRDCF3RC

Ricky Collard had a sensational weekend at Snetterton, winning two out of three races to lead the title fight into the final event. Although Ricky ultimately lost out to Matheus Leist, his leaping celebration style became a familiar sight in 2016 and is brilliantly preserved here by championship photographer Jakob Ebrey.

5. Jason O'Halloran, MCE BSB at Cadwell Park

BSBCP

Although MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship rivals Shane Byrne and Leon Haslam took the wins at the annual Party in the Park, Jason O'Halloran's two podium appearances for the locally-based Honda Racing team brought the most flamboyant celebrations, as captured here by Double Red.

6. Lotus 43, Oulton Park Gold Cup

GoldCupOP2

One of the stars of the show at the Oulton Park Gold Cup in August was a demonstration run from the rare, BRM H16-powered Lotus 43. Although it was a notorioulsy unreliable machine in period, Simon Arron has shown in this photo that it is also capable of prodigious speed.

7. Oulton Park Gold Cup

GoldCupOP

There's a great, nostaglic atmosphere at the Gold Cup, both on and off the track. Proof can be found in this colourful images from Nantwich Photo's Peter Robinson.

8. Gordon Shedden, BTCC at Brands Hatch

BTCCGS

Az Edwards shows that moment that Gordon Shedden's BTCC career hit the stratosphere as he grabbed his third title at Brands Hatch on a glorious October day.

9. Truck Racing and Fireworks at Brands Hatch

TrucksBH

Az was back a few weeks late for the annual Truck Racing and Fireworks meeting and in a break from tradition, found neon beauty away from the fireworks.

10. Britcar Into the Night Race at Brands Hatch

BritcarBH

The late-season events bring new photographic opportunities to a sport usually associated with bright conditions. One of our in-house photographers captures the fascinating shades and contrasts of racing at dusk.
