Garrett wins fourth truck race as Oliver and Summerfield collide

Sunday, November 08 2015

Luke Garrett took his fourth race win of the weekend at Brands Hatch today (Sunday), following an incident-filled race that saw Stuart Oliver gain valuable ground on Mat Summerfield after an early collision between the pair, and taking the Division One title right down to the wire.

Paddy Mccumisky led the field on lap one, but there was high drama behind as Oliver and Summerfield collided out of Paddock Hill. Oliver continued, but Summerfield was stranded, and the red flag was shown just as the reigning champion got going again.

After hasty repairs, Summerfield made the restart, which may have saved his championship. Brian Burt headed the field, with Simon Cole taking over duties as race leader, whilst Oliver and Summerfield ran line astern during the opening laps.

Cole ran wide at Paddock Hill late on, handing the lead to fellow Kentish runner Tony Smith, but he soon relinquished this to Garrett, who went on to win his third race of the weekend.

There was a great deal of focus on the Division One battle, where Oliver fought his way to the front, and losing out on the overall win by just a couple of seconds. He managed to clear Ryan Smith and Richard Collett, and the pair's fight for position prevented Summerfield from gaining a few valuable points.

The title gap between Summerfield and Oliver is now down to just two points - the same as it was at the start of the weekend. Oliver must finish at least a couple of class positions ahead of Summerfield to win the title.

Afterwards, Oliver referred to the earlier incident: "Somebody had put a roundabout in a Paddock Hill bend! I'm disappointed that the regulations were not adhered to - you're not allowed to work on a truck during a red flag. I'm the hunter not the hunted, so we'll see what happens [in race three]"

Behind Summerfield, Steve Thomas headed a Division Two gaggle containing Cole, Steven Powell and Adam Bint.

The title-deciding race will take place at 3:15pm.
