BTCC's Jordan looking forward to 'fun' 2016 after Brands Hatch test

Wednesday, November 11 2015

Former Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion Andrew Jordan had his first test for Motorbase Performance at Brands Hatch today (Wednesday), and is confident that he'll be returning to the top of the podium next year.

Andrew joined Motorbase Performance at the end of October after a winless season with MG 888 Racing. The Wrotham-based team only competed in the second half of the year, but their revamped Ford Focus won four races at three of the five weekends they contested, taking a trio of pole positions in the process.

After just half a day in the Focus, Andrew could see why the car was so competitive. "It's been a while since I've driven a Touring Car and come out with a smile on my face, and I'm very happy," he said. "I think we'll have some fun next year. I'm so pleased I came here for this test before Christmas - it's a nice boost, because it's really good.

"It's nice to get in something that does what it should, it does a bit more what the driver's trying to get it to do and it's properly sorted. Even if it didn't handle well I'm sure people will think I'll say it handles well, but it genuinely does. It feels a proper touring car compared to what I've been used to this year; I haven't felt this confident and happy for a while."

Andrew is confident that the car will be competitive next season, despite paddock rumours that the performance of its Mountune-built EcoBoost engine will be restricted. "It's not all engine'" he countered. "I've done some long runs today and they've done a fantastic job with it, and I can see why they're as dominant as they were over the second half of the season. That being said, that's that now; we need to focus on next year, the goal is to win the championship, and I feel we're going to be challenging. I've been in it long enough to know that you always need a bit of luck; you need things to go your way a bit. It's going to be fun."

Andrew believes that an early start to the 2016 campaign will pay dividends, and the team has a busy schedule ahead of the opening rounds at Brands Hatch on 2/3 April.

"We plan to go abroad testing for a good few days and come back here and do some more specific UK circuit testing in the UK weather, so I'm really excited - I can't wait, I wish the first race was this weekend!"

Tickets are available for 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at Brands Hatch Indy on 2/3 April, Oulton Park on 4/5 June, Snetterton on 30/31 July and Brands Hatch Grand Prix on 1/2 October.
