Brands Hatch’s early Grand Prix years to be recalled at Superprix

Thursday, June 25 2015

The legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit will reverberate with the sounds of the Historic Grand Prix Car Association's (HGPCA) classic machines at the HSCC Superprix on 11-12 July.

The HGPCA races will hark back to the era in which Brands Hatch first hosted the Formula One World Championship, and racing legends such as Jim Clark and Jack Brabham were victorious in Grands Prix at the Kent circuit. All of the cars on show will be classically-modelled beauties from manufacturers such as Cooper and Lotus, adorned in simple but iconic liveries, and predating modern aerodynamics and sponsor logos. Older Grand Prix cars will appear too, celebrating the heroics of earlier legends such as Juan Manuel Fangio, and even pre-war pioneers such as Tazio Nuvolari.

Thunderous single-seaters of the F5000 variety will star too in the Derek Bell Trophy, showcasing the type of open-wheel car that was raced globally by superstars including Mario Andretti, Jody Scheckter, Derek Bell, and Al Unser in the 1970s. Generally propelled by a 5-litre Chevrolet V8 engine, F5000 cars are immensely powerful and capable of rivalling the F1 cars of the day for pace - as demonstrated by Peter Gethin, who defeated a field of Grand Prix stars in the 1973 non-championship Race of Champions. The F5000 cars will race alongside Formula Two and Formula Atlantic machines in two Derek Bell Trophy races across the weekend.

Other single-seater treats include rounds of the HSCC's ever-popular Historic Formula Ford 1600 series, and Historic Formula Ford 2000, a slicks-and-wings variant which was first established at Brands Hatch in the 1970s.

A diverse mixture of pre-aerodynamics single-seaters will race in the Classic Racing Cars series, whilst there will also be a round of the European Historic F2 Championship, and races for different generations of Formula Three car, in addition to F3's predecessor Formula Junior.

Tickets for the HSCC Superprix at Brands Hatch on 11-12 July are available from £18 in advance with free entry for under-13s. For more information, please call 0843 453 9000 or click here
