American SpeedFest III steps up a gear tomorrow!

Saturday, June 06 2015

American SpeedFest III will bloom into the biggest family event of the year at Brands Hatch tomorrow (Sunday), as the venue is filled with American cars, motorised stars of the silver screen (including Lightning McQueen), and many more themed attractions.

Visitors at Brands Hatch today (Saturday) were able to experience a taste of what's to come, with track action headlined by a scintillating NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Race for the professional drivers in the Elite 1 class. Romain Iannetta claimed the spoils but, if today's action is anything to go by, he's going to face stiff opposition from a number of his rivals.

Eddie Cheever III and Nicolo Rocca were both in the thick of the action in the opening contest of the weekend, with both Italians leading early in the race before a safety car interruption to retrieve the stricken number 55 machine of Jeffrey Earnhardt. Both men have cars to overtake if they are to lead again on Sunday, as does Ander Vilarino, the Euro NASCAR driver with the best record at Brands Hatch.

Earnhardt, who is the grandson of all-time NASCAR legend Dale, has made great progress throughout the weekend and was running solidly in the top-12 when he went off at Clearways. Despite that moment of misfortune, the North Carolina native was fast enough in the race to secure a ninth place berth on the grid for Sunday's headline event.

Florian Renauer claimed the spoils in the first Elite 2 NWES race, for gentleman drivers and up-and-coming youngsters.

The NASCARs return on Sunday to headline a racing line-up that includes historic Formula 5000 single-seaters and historic V8s, in addition to the SpeedFest Silhouettes - a UK take on the American stock car model.

Following Champagne-fuelled podium celebrations Iannetta switched his focus to the inaugural Miss SpeedFest competition, where he helped to pick a winner from three finalists. Rachel Bruce was crowned as the winner, just edging out Tina Money and Gigi Lam in the vote, and she will be a prominent member of the SpeedFest team on the main event day.

In addition to a packed on-track programme of racing, demos, and displays, the circuit's off track areas will be transformed into scenes from Route 66, Daytona Beach, Utah Salt Flats, and many other areas, including the fictional town of Radiator Springs from Disney/Pixar's Cars films. Click here to see a full line-up of new-for-2015 attractions.
