MCE BSB to headline the ‘Big Brands Bash’ this weekend

Monday, July 13 2015

Kent's Brands Hatch circuit remains the spiritual home of Superbike racing in the UK, and next weekend (17/18/19 July) tens of thousands of fans will descend on the West Kingsdown circuit for the 'Big Brands Bash' - the annual summer round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

More than just a race meeting, the event has a true festival feel, with a huge campsite, funfair, trade village and a concert on the Saturday evening, coupled with a busy programme of qualifying and racing over three days on the legendary Grand Prix circuit.

Sittingbourne ace Shane 'Shakey' Byrne is the man in form after four successive wins at Snetterton and Knockhill respectively. He's taken a firm grip on the points standings as he pursues a record fifth crown, but his rivals are determined to defeat the reigning champion in his own backyard and get their own title campaigns back on track.

Byrne said: "I have had two really great weekends and now we come to my home race which is Brands Hatch and one of my favourite circuits probably anywhere in the world. I am really looking forward to it and trying to keep the momentum going. I am already concentrating on doing the best job I possibly can for the home fans and it would be absolutely fantastic if we can box off some more wins, but there is some strong competition from some great riders so it won't be easy!"

Leading the charge is Australia's Josh Brookes. The Milwaukee Yamaha rider has twice finished runner-up in the title battle and has celebrated multiple victories on the Grand Prix circuit in the past, but Byrne's team-mate Stuart Easton and JG Speedfit Kawasaki's James Ellison are also hungry for victory. To add extra spice, former MCE BSB runner up and MotoGP frontrunner John Hopkins has made a shock return to the championship, and the American has looked quick in testing so far with the Moto Rapido Ducati team.

The weekend kicks off with Monster Energy Fans' Thursday (16 July), a unique event giving spectators free-of-charge access to the venue from midday to meet the riders, enjoy pitlane access to watch the team's preparing for the weekend and join an exclusive track walk. A number of riders will also be interviewed throughout the afternoon on the Monster Energy Rig.

The world's premier Foo Fighter tribute band, UK Foo Fighters, will headline an evening of music and entertainment by the campsite on Saturday, with free of charge admission for all valid MCE BSB ticketholders!

Spectators will get another chance to meet the stars of the show during the weekend with free-of-charge Pit Walks on Saturday and Sunday before the afternoon action gets underway, with Sunday's main event day featuring the two showpiece MCE BSB races.

A superb programme of support races includes a guest appearance from the FIM Sidecar World Championship.

Discounted advance tickets are available now: adult raceday (Sunday) admission is £26 online, and three-day adult tickets are £34. Camping is just £18 per person, and children under 13 go free. For more information, call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
