50 Days until the MCE BSB returns to Brands Hatch

Friday, February 27 2015

There are just 50 days to go until the MCE British Superbike Championship makes its first of three 2015 visits to Brands Hatch on 17-19 April. The series is set for a bumper year, with no fewer than forty riders - the largest entry in series history - already signed up to join a grid comprising some of the biggest names in top-class motorcycle racing.

At least half of the field are expected to be contenders for spots in the season-ending six-way Showdown, with 11 of the race-winners taking to the Brands Hatch tarmac in 50 days' time. Multiple champions Shane 'Shakey' Byrne (Kawasaki) and Ryuichi Kiyonari (BMW) lead the illustrious list of podium-toppers, which also includes Josh Brookes, Tommy Bridewell, James Ellison, Stuart Easton, Michael Laverty, Howie Mainwaring, Josh Waters, Peter Hickman, and crowd-favourite Chris Walker. The field is also ripe with international pedigree, with 11 nations represented on the grid.

Intriguing storylines to look out for include the resumption of Byrne and Kiyonari's duel, the introduction of Yamaha's new R1 as developed by Valentino Rossi, and Honda Racing's full-time return with Dan Linfoot, Jason O'Halloran, and the MCE BSB's leading lady Jenny Tinmouth, the first-ever female factory-backed rider.

BMW is another manufacturer increasing its involvement in 2015, with Tyco joining their ranks to field entries for MotoGP ace Michael Laverty and last season's third-placed man Tommy Bridewell.

Other big changes include Halsall Racing's switch to Suzuki Machinery, Smiths BMW stepping up to the main class with reigning Supersport Champion Billy McConnell, and 2011 MCE BSB Champion Tommy Hill's return to the paddock as team boss with the new Be Wiser Kawasaki squad.

In addition to two action-packed main class races, the Brands Hatch weekend will also feature a superb support package, which includes the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship.
