MG extends BTCC commitment for a further three seasons

Friday, December 11 2015

MG has renewed its deal with Triple Eight Racing for a further three seasons in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, with the MG6 returning to the grid for the 2016 championship, which gets underway at Brands Hatch next April.

The Chinese-owned manufacturer won the Manufacturers' Title in 2014, but budget constraints prevented Triple Eight from developing the cars last season. The team managed to score a race victory at Snetterton with Jack Goff, but title challenger Andrew Jordan left the squad for Motorbase at the end of the season. MG's 2016 driving force will be announced in due course.

The road-going MG6 has undergone a facelift and the race version is expected to follow suit, with changes under the bodywork including upgraded NGTC parts from new supplier RML. Triple Eight will also be forging an alliance with rivals Team BMR, and basing their operations at Warren Scott's Hertfordshire HQ.

Ian Harrison, Team Principal at Triple Eight Racing, said: "We're delighted to renew this important strategic deal. This year we saw an even more competitive BTCC and, while our drivers didn't always get the results hoped, we took small comfort in the fact we had a year of zero mechanical and electrical faults; which is rare in this business and is an example of the high standards that Triple Eight prides itself on.

"That quality has been a deciding factor for MG, who are realising the opportunity that the BTCC offers and we're looking forwarding to working on the new MG6 platform for the coming three years. I fully believe we can once again be strong contenders for every title on the table."

Tickets are available for 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at Brands Hatch Indy on 2/3 April, Oulton Park on 4/5 June, Snetterton on 30/31 July and Brands Hatch Grand Prix on 1/2 October.
