MCE BSB leader Brookes switches to four wheels this weekend

Friday, August 28 2015

MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship leader Josh Brookes will be swapping two wheels for four at Brands Hatch this weekend (29/30 August), when he will make his British Superkart Championship debut at the Kent circuit.

Brookes was crowned 'King of Brands' at July's round of MCE BSB, where he began a six-race winning streak that has propelled him to the top of the championship standings. The Milwaukee Yamaha rider is aiming to take his maiden BSB title when the series returns to Brands Hatch in October, but in the meantime will be getting extra track time in a superkart this weekend.

Josh, who has previously driven karts in his native Australia, will be racing a 250cc DEA-engined superkart for the Parker Motorsport team. Superkarts are designed for racing on longer circuits, and have aerodynamic bodywork enabling them to reach speeds in excess of 100mph.

Brookes said: "It is something I haven't done before on track so it should be a bit different. The principles in racing are the same no matter what it is - you have to be determined and have the typical sporting mentality of competition. It will be the first time I have raced one like this so we will just see how it goes as it will be a new experience."

Brookes will take part in a practice session at 11:45 on Saturday morning, before qualifying at 16:45. He will race three times on Sunday, at 11:15, 15:35 and 17:30.

Tickets for the BARC Club Car Championships at Snetterton are available on the gate for £14 with free entry for under-13s. For more information please call 0843 453 9000 or click here
