Ellison edges ahead in MCE BSB Free Practice Two

Friday, April 17 2015

James Ellison edged out the opposition in the second MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship free practice session on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, to topple Ryuichi Kiyonari from the top by just 0.024s in the closing ten minutes.

Ellison scored two podium finishes for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team on the 1.2-mile Indy circuit last season and ahead of tomorrow's crucial Datatag Extreme Qualifying session he surged ahead of the Buildbase BMW contender who had topped the opening free practice.

Kiyonari though had been putting in the laps; the triple champion posting a series of consistent lap times to prove his pace ahead of the two 30 lap races on Sunday. He remained ahead of an improving Josh Brookes on the Milwaukee Yamaha and Danny Buchan on the Be Wiser Kawasaki who climbed to fourth in the closing moments.

Defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne ended the opening day fifth fastest for the PBM Kawasaki team, just ahead of his team-mate Stuart Easton as the pair pushed Jakub Smrz on the Lloyds British Ducati back to seventh place.

Billy McConnell grabbed another top ten finish in the session for the Smiths Racing BMW team, ahead of fellow BMW rider Tommy Bridewell on the Tyco BMW and Richard Cooper completed the top ten.
