Stage is set for SpeedFest II's day in the sun

Saturday, June 07 2014

Brands Hatch will complete its transformation into a scene from Daytona tomorrow (Sunday) as American SpeedFest II steps up a gear with a packed schedule of American-fuelled entertainment.

With perfect weather in store, it will be hotting up on and off the track!

Eddie Cheever III claimed to honours in the weekend's first Whelen NASCAR Euro Series contest, and he will have the opportunity to repeat in his success tomorrow.

The day's main NASCAR race at 13.20 will be preceded by an opening ceremony featuring driver introductions, cheerleaders, the Star Spangled Banner and much more!

The second of the day's NASCAR races feature the gentleman drivers and rising stars in the Elite 2 category, and it was Wilfried Boucenna who took an impressive victory on Saturday.

Post-race celebrations will receive the full American treatment, with spectators encouraged to come and cheer them onto a special podium at Victory Lane. The stage will also be the live music venue throughout the day, with the Fat Walters Band, Houndogs, El Camino and Elvis taking it in turns to entertain the public throughout the day!

Away from the circuit there will be a plethora of festival attractions, the most prominent of which will be the car displays, with no fewer than 1000 American machines expected to attend. Among the collection will be machines from the USA's most famous marques, an ex-Rick Mears Penske Indy Car, and a film car display. There will also be special displays celebrating the 50th anniversaries of Ford's two most iconic models, the Mustang and the GT40.

Spectators can also look to the heavens for entertainment as a North American T-6 Texan takes to the skies for an aerobatics display during the opening ceremony at approximately 13.00, just prior to the first NASCAR race of the day.

Further off-track entertainment will come in the form of gravity-defying mountainboarding stunts in the MBS Big Air Show, dragster demonstrations, monster truck rides, the Michelin driving simulator, and a trade village that has doubled in size since last year's event.

You can also test your own limits with Extreme Adventure's zip-line, high ropes and laser maze, or by free jumping from a height with BagJump.

Joining the two NASCAR contests on tomorrow's racing bill are a number of special US-style battles, notably Bernie's V8s and Big Bangers at Brands. Bernie's V8s features many classic V8-powered machines from both sides of the Atlantic battling for grip and track position in spectacular style, whilst the Big Bangers grid comprises a number of rare cars, including several from the Can-Am era of American sports car racing. The Lola of Michele Ligouri will start the first of the Big Bangers races from pole after coming out on top in Saturday's qualifying.

The racing line-up will be completed by American-style Pickup Truck racing with the Quaife Intermarque Championship showcasing British stock car racing.

The event's open paddock policy allows fans to indulge themselves and take a closer look at a number of special racing machines as they are prepared for the races!

Tickets for American SpeedFest II will be available on the gate for £25 with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information please visit www.speedfest.co.uk.
