Tordoff targets title glory after retaining MG BTCC drive

Thursday, January 09 2014

MG KX Momentum Racing will retain its race-winning line-up of Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff as it aims to take the 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title, which kicks off at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March.

Tordoff's continued participation alongside double champion Plato was confirmed soon after his place in the KX Akademy was renewed after a successful 2013 season. The Yorkshireman took his maiden pole position and win at Snetterton before finishing in sixth place in the title standings in his rookie year.

Tordoff and Plato annexed the front row in five of the ten qualifying sessions, and having established an excellent working relationship with his team mate, was expected to remain in the squad for a second season. With former British F3 champion Marc Hynes driving a third car for builder Triple 8, the MG starts the new season as a formidable challenger to the previously dominant Honda Civics.

However Tordoff isn't expecting to play second fiddle to his team mate. Speaking to Autosport magazine, he said: "My goal for the 2014 season is to return to the BTCC for a shot at the title. 2013 was a learning year where I gained invaluable experience, began to understand an NGTC car and adapt to the racecraft.

"I will now return as a better driver to fight for wins and achieve consistency, which will put me much closer to the championship battle."

Tickets for the 2014 rounds of the BTCC at MSV circuits are now on sale from £26 and you view and order them by clicking here. 2014 season passes are also available. Click here for more details.
