Thomas & Burt claim first Brands honours of 2014 at Winter Stages

Monday, January 13 2014

Dean Thomas and co-driver Mark Burt claimed victory in Sunday's (12 January) MGJ Brands Hatch Winter Stages rally event, becoming the first victors at the Kent circuit in 2014. A full field of rally machines attacked a series of challenging bespoke rally stages, prepared specifically for the Chelmsford Motor Club contest.

Early running was made difficult by an icy track surface following an overnight frost. Johnnie Ellis and Dave Green were able to handle the tricky conditions better than their opponents, resulting in them winning four of the first six stages and allowing them to lead into the seventh.

Unfortunately their good fortune wasn't to last with a front right puncture causing their lead to evaporate, dropping them out of contention for overall honours. This mishap handed the initiative to Thomas and Burt's Davrian Dav-Tec, the pair eventually winning by 12 seconds despite a late charge from Royston and Bridge Carey's Renault Clio.
