Brands Hatch hosts MCE BSB title decider this weekend

Monday, October 14 2013

The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship goes down to the wire at Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend (18/19/20 October) as local hero Shane 'Shakey' Byrne from Sittingbourne bids for a record fourth crown. With just one point separating him from closest rival Alex Lowes, the stage is set for a thrilling climax to the season!

The pair have been almost inseparable throughout the 2013 season and a win apiece and a photo finisher decider at Silverstone last time out means the pair arrive at Brands Hatch virtually level on points ahead of the final three race wins of the season on the Grand Prix circuit. The triple-header event features one race on Saturday afternoon following the Datatag Extreme qualifying session, with the usual two races on Sunday before the champion is decided and the victory celebrations begin.

Byrne said: "I love Brands Hatch and not just because it is my local circuit - it could be anywhere and I would still love it because of its characteristics. I have been lucky to have had such incredible support in the past and the track has been really good to me but it has also been cruel at times too so hopefully it can be kind to me again this weekend! It will definitely be close between us; we have had some great battles and with only one point between myself and Alex we both know that no matter what we need to beat each other. I am ready to try and win this fourth title as words cannot explain what it would mean to me to become the most successful rider in BSB history."

Lowes added: "Heading to Brands Hatch I am feeling good; I am sure I will be nervous come the races because that is just normal, but all season we have worked so hard to be in this position for the final round and we have as good a chance of winning as anyone. We need to win races at Brands Hatch because that is going to decide the championship. I have everything in place to do the job - now it is down to me."

Milwaukee Yamaha's James Ellison and Australian Josh Brookes are also still in with a mathematical shot at the MCE BSB title, and tens of thousands of fans are set to descend on the Kent circuit for the final MCE BSB action of the 2013 campaign.

A number of support race titles will also be decided on the Grand Prix circuit, with the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship and the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 and 600 Championship still to be concluded on Sunday. The event will also feature a disco and live music on Friday and Saturday nights plus a funfair, go karting and a free pit walk autograph session, making this an event for all the family.

Tickets are available to purchase on the gate and cost £10 on Friday, £17 on Saturday (includes MCE BSB race one) and £31 for Sunday (usual two MCE BSB races) when the title will be decided. Children 12 and under free. For further information and to book click here or call 0843 453 9000.
