Fielding secures first BRDC F4 win in Brands Hatch race two

Saturday, November 23 2013

Sennan Fielding secured his maiden win in single seaters in the second F4 race at Brands Hatch this afternoon (Saturday), the second win of the day for the HHC Motorsport team.

18-year-old Fielding led every lap from pole position, and made the best of his grid slot to lead into the first corner from fellow front row starter Kieran Vernon. Jake Cook also made a decent start to rise from fifth on the grid to third, slotting in behind team mate Vernon on the run to turn one.

Championship leader Graham also got a good start and was third briefly before being pushed back to fourth, while race one winner Will Palmer had a slower get away and fell to sixth.

At the front, Fielding set about setting fastest lap after fastest lap, holding a lead of one second after three laps, a gap he extended throughout to ultimately win by 3.4s. Fielding's win elevates him to third in the championship, just nine points behind leader Graham, and four behind Cook.

Vernon had Cook in his mirrors throughout the encounter, with Graham also joining the train. Vernon in just his second F4 race held firm to keep second, while Cook's third place ahead of Graham ensured he trimmed Graham's championship lead to five points heading to tomorrow's crucial final two races.

Fittipaldi maintained a comfortable gap to cars both in front and behind to take fifth place, while Will Palmer took sixth after securing victory in today's first race.

Matteo Ferrer took a competitive seventh for Mark Godwin Racing, while Gosia Rdest took her best ever F4 result with eighth place for Douglas Motorsport. Fredrik Johansen claimed ninth for Chris Dittmann Racing, with Dimitris Papanastasiou tenth for Hillspeed.

Falco Wauer was forced into an early retirement on the opening lap at Clearways, ending his race early in the gravel.

Speaking after the race, Fielding enthused: "It's great to finally take my first win. I got a good start but I saw Kieran [Vernon] was quite close behind me and I just got my head down from there. From lap eight, my lap times were within a tenth of a second of each other all the way until the end and we got the fastest lap as well. Big thanks to everyone at HHC for doing such a top job.

"It feels so good to be out in the car, and now we've had the first win hopefully we can get some more tomorrow. We're in the title fight now so we've just got to play it by ear and do our best tomorrow and see how it pans out."
