Jaafar holds off King for a second British F3 win at Brands Hatch

Sunday, August 11 2013

Jazeman Jaafar took a second Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series victory at Brands Hatch today (Sunday) in the final race of the weekend, in which Jordan King applied pressure throughout.

Despite a challenge from King, Jaafar held onto the lead heading out of Paddock Hill bend on the opening lap, which he completed a second clear of his Carlin team mate. However the excitement on lap two occurred when Antonio Giovinazzi ran wide at Druids and as Fortec's Felipe Guimaraes and Will Buller ran side-by-side into Graham Hill, the Double R machine of Giovinazzi tagged the back of Buller, dropping both out of contention.

At the front Jaafar continued to run clear, with King, Latifi and Guimaraes all lapping a similar distance apart. Meanwhile there was an entertaining National Class battle for second place between Chris Vlok and Cameron Twynam, in which Zhi Cong Li was also involved.

With the order at the front unchanged, Latifi was given another warning for exceeding track limits as he fought to stay on terms with the leaders. However King was closing on Jaafar and as they came upon the National Class cars, an opportunity presented itself at Paddock Hill. However the Malaysian was wise to this and had it covered, taking the opportunity to open up a gap to the Briton.

This was as close as the lead battle got and Jaafar paced himself a second win on his return to the championship. Latifi stayed in third place from Guimaraes and Jann Mardenborough, with Sean Gelael and Tatiana Calderon leading National Class winner Ed Jones. Twynham and Cong Li completed the top ten, with Buller finishing in 12th place.
