BMW top second GT practice with 888 Optimum fastest

Saturday, August 10 2013

Joe Osborne and Lee Mowle's 888 Optimum BMW Z4 posted the fastest time in the second practice session for this weekend's Avon Tyres British GT Championship round at Brands Hatch today (Saturday) after trading times with the Nick Tandy and David Ashburn Trackspeed Porsche.

The number 8 BMW Z4 of 888 Optimum racing was once again leading the early running before a red flag stoppage, giving a sense of déjà vu to the proceedings. The hiatus had been caused by the PGF-Kinfaun Aston Martin that was fastest in the morning session.

Just a few minutes of running had got underway before Steve Tandy's 888 Optimum Z4 caused another stoppage. Rob Barff was immediately quick when the session resumed in the FF Corse Ferrari 458, to post third fastest time behind Nick Tandy in the Trackspeed Porsche.

With ten minutes remaining Tandy tried a qualifying-style run to go fastest with a lap three-quarters of a second better than the morning's benchmark. Just as it seemed as though this would stand until the end of the session, Joe Osborne pipped him by half a tenth.

Behind the FF Corse team which held third place were the Trackspeed Porsches of Gregorr Fisken and Stephen Jelly and Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen. The second 888 Optimum Racing machine was in sixth, from Ecurie Ecosse and a pair of United Autosports crews - the Audi ahead of team boss Zak Brown and Alvaro Parente's McLaren. AF Corse's Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin were tenth.

The GT4 class was headed by Declan Jones and Zoe Wenham from Rick Parfett Jr and Ryan Ratcliffe once more. Qualifying will take place at 17:30 today.
