Truck racers set to thrill at Brands Hatch this April

Monday, April 08 2013

The British Truck Racing Championship returns to Brands Hatch this month (20/21 April). The event is popular with both race fans and families alike and new rules for 2013 are set to make the action even more exciting than before!

An extra race has been added to the weekend, with two on the Saturday for the 1,000bhp leviathans after qualifying, in addition to three on the Sunday. Both classes will take part in the action, with the slower Division 2 trucks now starting several seconds before the faster machinery, which will need to overtake to secure the wins.

Also increasing the overtaking will be a reverse grid system, based on the results of the previous race and both measures should provide unexpected results. It will also make life very difficult for rivals Mat Summerfield and Dave Jenkins, the former defending his title after a dominant season. Jenkins has upgraded his truck in an effort to regain the crown he lost last year, now in an all-black livery. Both will face tough opposition from Ricky Collett, Steve Thomas, Ben Horne and Oly Janes, in his bonneted American truck.

Meanwhile local interest will be centred around Division 2, with reigning class champion Dave Smith from Tonbridge facing Kent rival Steve Powell amongst a packed field. The new race format could see one of these take an outright win on the tight Brands Hatch Indy circuit.

Between the Truck races spectators will be able to enjoy the best of British motorsport, including American-style Pickup Trucks and hot rod-style Legends providing thrill-a-minute racing. Classic Formula Ford and saloon racing is also on the bill, whilst off-track there's plenty to keep young minds occupied, with a fun fair, face painting and go-karting amongst the attractions.

Tickets for the British Truck Racing Championship at Brands Hatch on 20/21 April are available from £18, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
