The heavyweights of motorsport return to Brands this weekend!

Wednesday, April 17 2013

The British Truck Racing Championship returns to Brands Hatch this weekend (20/21 April) with plenty of action expected thanks to a new five race format and reversed grids.

Despite starting at the back of the grid, the Division 1 class is expected to provide the race winners, with Mat Summerfield defending a title gained in dominant style last year. However he and regular rival Dave Jenkins have already clashed at the opening round and both will be out for revenge this weekend!

Taking advantage of this duel is Steve Thomas, who currently sits at the top of the leaderboard but fierce competition is expected to come from Stuart Oliver, who dominated the sport for several years and is making his comeback to Truck Racing.

Looking to gain the upper hand with the new grid system are the Division 2 racers, with a strong local challenge expected. Reigning class champion Dave Smith makes his season debut this weekend, and despite having moved from Tonbridge to East Malling, has kept everything else the same in his efforts to lift a second crown.

Local rival and former Division 2 Champion Steven Powell is also starting his 2013 campaign at home, almost literally so as his base is just a couple of miles away at the Portobello Inn! However both will need to catch up with early title leaders Jim Bennett, Brian Burt and impressive newcomer Simon Reid.

Several foreign drivers are also expected to make the journey to Brands Hatch, including familiar faces Cees Zandbergen and Frans Smit. The five races, three of which take place on the Sunday, are expected to provide plenty of thrills and spills, with plenty of wheel-to-wheel action around the Indy circuit!

In addition to the truck races, there will be plenty of fun provided by the Pickup Trucks, Legends, Quaife / Motorsport News Saloon Cars/Cannons Tin Tops, Quaife Intermarque and classic Formula Fords. There will also be plenty of family-themed attractions around the circuit including a fun fair, free face painting and a new motorsport-themed adventure playground.

Tickets for The British Truck Racing Championship at Brands Hatch on 20/21 April are available on the gate from £13, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
