Summerfield claims third Truck race win of the weekend

Sunday, April 21 2013

Matt Summerfield took a third victory in this weekend's British Truck Racing Championship round at Brands Hatch today (Sunday). He won a race full of incident and attrition, with local racer Graham Powell breaking Dave Smith's Division 2 dominance.

Oscar Clark and James Aitkenhead disputed the lead of the race as Steve Thomas and Summerfield did the same in Division 1. Smith briefly fell out of contention on lap two, whilst Thomas and Summerfield clashed at the same time, the former losing out.

Graham Powell then took over the lead of the race whilst Summerfield chased after the slower trucks. Behind Matt, Stuart Oliver and David Jenkins chased down the class leader as he began to pass the Division 2 racers.

Smith began to work his way forward but Summerfield was by now in his mirrors as they despatched with Steven Powell in third place.  Summerfield then took third, then second from Aitkenhead and then Graham Powell to lead, whilst Smith passed Aitkenhead a little later.

Meanwhile Oliver powered through to second but Jenkins clashed with Aitkenhead and both lost valuable time. Oliver then slowed, leaving Heinz-Werner Lenz in second place, with Smith also in trouble.

This left Thomas in third from Division 2 winner Graham Powell, ahead of brother Steven. Both stayed ahead of Luke Taylor, whilst Frans Smit and Brian Burt were third and fourth in class.

Summerfield said: "One race left and with offs and the closeness of the races it could go either way. Lovely to be here, the crowd are amazing, let's hope they enjoyed it and let's have another race later on today!"
