Summerfield beats Jenkins to top truck qualifying at Brands Hatch

Saturday, April 20 2013

Reigning British Truck Racing Champion Matt Summerfield topped the qualifying session at Brands Hatch this morning (Saturday). Rival David Jenkins was second, with local driver David Smith heading Division 2.

Jenkins topped much of the session, before a late effort from Summerfield placed him at the top of the table by a quarter of a second, then on his next lap he broke the one minute one second barrier to gain another half second on the field.

In third was championship leader Steve Thomas, whilst returning former champion Stuart Oliver took fourth place. Ben Horne completed a dominant performance by the MAN trucks with fifth place, whilst visiting Europeans Cees Zandbergen and Heinz-Werner Lenz were next, before Richard Collett's MAN in eighth.

Smith led Division 2 in ninth place from Frans Smit and local resident Steven Powell. The track was filled as a packed field contested the session, under bright sunshine. The first of five truck races this weekend will take place at 12:05 today.
