Brands Hatch installs new kerbing ahead of new season

Friday, January 06 2012

A series of improvements are currently being made to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, with the aim of further improving safety on the famous Kent venue, focussing on run-off areas and revised kerbing.

The run-off at Druids will now consist of an extended stretch of tarmac with gravel beyond it, while improved 'grasscrete' kerbing areas are being placed on the exits of Druids and Graham Hill Bend. Vallelunga-style kerbing is also being installed on the exit of Clearways.

Estate and Track Manager Duncan Nisbet said; "We've taken advantage of the quiet festive period to make some essential improvements to the circuit aimed at improving the safety even further than current levels, and also to possibly spice up the racing.

"Previously anyone attempting an overtake at Druids may have ended up in the gravel, sometimes bringing out red flags that spoil the flow of the race meetings. Hopefully the new run-off will make a move more likely, obviously making sure the drivers don't exceed the track limits at the same time!"

The first event of the 2012 season takes place next weekend with the return of the Brands Hatch Stages Rally which debuted successfully last year. Tickets are priced at £10 in advance with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
