FIA Historic F1 to headline Brands Hatch HSCC Superprix

Tuesday, February 07 2012

The HSCC Superprix returns once again to the famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit from 30 June - 1 July. The event will be headlined by the FIA Historic Formula One Championship.

The Superprix will play host to the only UK round of the series, which features F1 cars from the 1960s to early 1980s. "The Brands Hatch Superprix is always one of our biggest and best events." says HSCC Executive Director Grahame White. "The Superprix is very important from our point of view to run on the Grand Prix circuit and it will be a superb programme as always" White concludes.

The prestige of running on the Grand Prix circuit is also not lost on FIA Historic Formula One Championship Chairman Dan Collins: "The Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit has a lot of challenges, especially in a Formula One car. It's very quick, but that just adds to the adrenaline rush; I think it's great."

The 2011 event welcomed the then relatively unknown Japanese starlet Hideki Yamauchi for his first UK visit. Despite having never been to the Kent circuit before and being jetlagged, the Japanese Formula 3 champion secured race wins in both Historic F1 and Group C races. Collins stated "Young Hideki is on the rise and even potentially a future Formula One driver and it's fair to say he blew us old guys away, but then you'd expect that!"

The weekend will also feature races from the Martini Trophy, Historic Formula Ford, and Classic Formula 3 among others in an exciting racing roster, but it's the Formula One cars that steal the show.

"One of the usual stars is Bobby Verdon Roe who is very quick in the McLaren MP4, and we have Joaquin Folch in the Brabham BT49 which is Bernie Ecclestone's own car." Says Collins "They're always fun to watch and put on a good show at the front."

The HSCC Superprix takes place at Brands Hatch from 30 Jun - 1 Jul. Advance tickets are available for £17 with free admission for children aged 12 and under. For more information and to book tickets click here or call 0843 453 9000.
